Nova Scotia is one of the easiest provinces in all of Canada to obtain your Canadian Permanent Residency. Why do you ask? Well, that’s what we’re covering today. No matter if you are an international student planning to graduate now, have already graduated, or you’re outside of Canada and have been refused visitor visas, study permits, or work permits – these programs could be your direct path to PR.
No points, No Provincial fees for processing or registration. It’s all FREE with No points-based system no matter which program you pick for the great province of Nova Scotia!
It is a very immigrant-friendly province and beautiful in the summers as it’s an island. It is the largest and most populated province in the entire Atlantic region.
Keep in mind that any of the following 3 programs can be applied as a graduated international student if you meet all the eligibility criteria which we will outline. Besides the International Graduates in demand, the other 2 programs will allow overseas applicants who have never even been inside Canada to be sponsored for PR and a work permit by an eligible Nova Scotia employer. These are some of the easiest programs to apply for as a skilled or semi-skilled worker – so pay close attention.
If you’re planning to immigrate to Canada and you’re looking for some guidance and support, you’re at the right place! Can apply from overseas or from inside Canada if you have a valid status. It is a PR and work permit stream – like many PNPs. However, as mentioned before there are no points or fees for any of these programs. So, unlike other PNPs, you submit all your documents at the beginning, not based on an ITA since there are no profile points.
Here are the applicant requirements:
* Offer of employment from an eligible Nova Scotia employer. This means a 30-hour-a-week minimum offer of employment.
* Wage should be within the range of the occupation for the province – not necessarily the median wage.
* 1-year minimum work experience anywhere in the world within the last 5 years for TEER level 0,1,2,3 and 1-year work experience of which 6 months should be for the Nova Scotia employer if you are in TEER 4 or 5 (which means you should be on an open work permit already or on an LMIA closed work permit)
* Prove Language ability of CLB5 for TEER 0,1,2,3 – and the good news is that if you studied in English or French or have previous work experience in these languages, you do not need to take the exams. This is especially true for graduated international students or workers from overseas from English or French-speaking countries or who have worked in an occupation that required these languages for communication.
* If you are in an occupation TEER level 4 or 5 then it is mandatory to submit a language exam score of minimum CLB4 in either English or French (no matter where you were born or whether you have been working all your life and communicating in English or French)
Cannot be an existing international student in Canada still studying. Should either be an overseas applicant or inside Canada with a visitor visa or work permit (which means it can be a graduated international student)
You cannot be a majority shareholder in the business that is offering you a job (i.e., over 50% shares in the Nova Scotia employer)
6 months processing time by the Nova Scotia PNP for the final nomination certificate.
Upon nomination, the applicant can apply for their PR with their eligible dependents and a work permit (possibly from inside or outside Canada if you meet all eligibility criteria).
Here are the Employer requirements
* Employer must have been in business for at least 2 years.
* The local employed may need to get an Employer Registration Certificate from the Director of Labour Standards to recruit and hire foreign workers for employment in Nova Scotia.
* The employer should advertise for 30 days on 3 platforms if the applicant does not have an open work permit already or an approved LMIA by the employer.
* No home-based businesses are allowed under any of the Nova Scotia Provincial programs.

If you have completed at least half of your studies at a Nova Scotia DLI and meet the 2 occupations in demand for this stream, this could be your ticket to PR and extension or obtaining a new work permit. The occupations are specific to this program and can change – but we will cover the ones that are now in high demand and listed and approved by the Nova Scotia PNP as of May 1st, 2023:

* The course should be somehow related to the occupations in demand for this stream allowing you to work in NOC 33102: nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates or NOC 42202: early childhood educators and assistants.
* If you are applying under NOC 33102 (nurse aides), your program must grant a certificate, diploma, or degree.
* If you are applying under NOC 42202 (early childhood educators and assistants), your program must grant a diploma or a degree.
* have a full-time permanent job offer from a Nova Scotia employer in one of these 2 above-listed NOC codes that correspond with your recent field of study; This means 30 hours a week minimum for your job offer.
* Wage should be within the range of the occupation for the province – not necessarily median wage.
* Prove language ability of CLB 5 (this doesn’t mean you need to have taken a language exam). Previous studies in English or French or previous work experience documents can attest to this.

* Your age is between 21-55 at the time of application.
* You cannot be a majority shareholder in the business that is offering you a job (i.e. over 50% shares in the Nova Scotia employer).
