The Spanish non-investment residency program opens the possibility for an entire family to move to Spain. There is no requirement or need to invest in Spain, and children can study in Spain for the same fees as local Spanish residents pay (elementary, secondary school, and public universities).
After a total of 5 years of legal residence, a long-term residence permit for 5 years will be issued to the applicant, the spouse, and children (i.e. a ‘golden visa’ is issued after the 5th year – without the need to purchase or invest in real estate). The applicant can easily convert to a ‘golden visa’ (permanent residency) within the first year of this type of visa – since this option is always open to the applicant during the first 5 years.
